Editorial Board

PHE America Editorial Board

The PHE America Editorial Board is comprised of professionals in K-12/Higher Education interested in serving as a manuscript reviewer to offer writers constructive feedback in preparing their manuscripts for publication.  To be eligible, an Editorial Board member must have one published manuscript with PHE America.  Editorial Board members serve 1 or 2-year terms.  Terms can be renewed.  The Editorial Board will be chaired by the Managing Editor.

Pete Van Mullem, Ph.D.

Dr. Van Mullem has authored over 50 publications related to coach development in both trade and academic publications, including books, book chapters, and journal articles. He is the co-author of two recently published books: To Be a Better Coach and the National Standards for Sport Coaches and the writer for the upcoming biography: Cornfields to Gold Medals. Dr. Van Mullem serves on the Editorial Board for the International Sport Coaching Journal, as the Director of Sport Coach America, and as Editor-in-Chief of PHE America. He has 14 years of professional experience in coaching at the scholastic and collegiate levels.

Hannah Holl

Dr. Holl is a professor at Slippery Rock University and is the coordinator of the School Wellness Education program. She is a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) and her expertise includes school-based programming to improve physical activity and wellbeing among youths. She has been the project director for 7 grants in Pennsylvania to improve physical activity and student wellness in schools by updating k-12 physical education curricula to align with the School Wellness Education model, and by training health and physical education teachers to serve as physical activity leaders and wellness champions within their school. She has published multiple journal articles on physical activity and wellbeing, and has served as a textbook author for Springer Nature and Human Kinetics. Dr. Holl is passionate about rebuilding the health and wellness of our society through schools.

Brian Sather is a professor of physical education and sport at Eastern Oregon University. He specializes in sport and recreation management as well as sport history and philosophy. He has 25 years of college experience preparing physical education teachers and coaches, along with several presentations and projects related to technology. Jessica is in her 8th year as an Instructor in the Division of Movement and Sport Sciences at Lewis-Clark State College.  She has a Ph.D. from the University of Idaho with an emphasis in Biomechanics.  Jessica’s primary area of research is focused on neuromuscular deficits and ACL injury risk in females.  Her goal is to increase awareness and equip educators and coaches with the tools needed to reduce the risk of injury in their students and athletes.

Aubrey Shaw, Ph.D.

Aubrey H. Shaw earned her doctorate in character education and leadership at the Center for ETHICS* at the University of Idaho in 2020. Aubrey has 28 years of experience with traumatic brain injury (TBI), support services, and special education. Aubrey has been a competitive athlete in soccer and basketball and then was a para-athlete for six years. She focuses her research on the ethics of including students with physical disabilities in physical education, recreation, and sport.

Heather Van Mullem, Ph.D.

Heather Van Mullem is a professor in the Division of Movement and Sport Sciences at Lewis-Clark State College.  An award-winning professor, she has held a variety of leadership roles in national organizations including President of Northwest District SHAPE America, President of Idaho Shape, and President of Western Society for Kinesiology and Wellness. Heather played collegiate basketball at Eastern Washington University and Green River Community College where she was inducted in the Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997.  She frequently presents at national conferences on topics related to issues facing female athletes and wellness.  She received her Ph.D. from the University of Kansas in Sport Studies with an emphasis in Sport Psychology and Sport Sociology.

Rory Weishaar, Ed.D.

Central Washington University

Rory Weishaar is Co-chair of the Department of Sport and Movement Studies and an Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Sport and Athletic Administration MS program. He was a public school teacher and multi-sport coach for 16 years, a school administrator for 12 years, and an Athletic Director for 8 years. He resides in Ellensburg during the academic year and in Montana during the summers. He has been a professor at CWU since 2013.
